Record with your phone as the microphone
Pair your phone with the recording studio by scanning a QR code: it records your voice up close and works as the remote while you read on the computer.

The microphone in your pocket is usually better than the one in your laptop. In the recording studio, your phone can become the microphone and the remote: you hold it a hand's width from your mouth, you read the paragraph in large type on the computer, as on a teleprompter, and you start, stop and accept each take from the phone. No cables and no app to install: you only scan a QR code.
Pair your phone
Open the artwork, choose the language, press Voice and choose Record with the teleprompter. To record a single paragraph, open its … menu and choose Record this paragraph.
In Which microphone will you record with?, choose With my phone. It is marked Recommended, and the studio remembers your choice as Last time.
In Scan the code with your phone, open your phone's camera and point it at the QR code. A link appears: open it.
The studio opens on your phone. Press Turn on the microphone and accept the permission your phone's browser asks for.
The computer says your phone is ready, and the studio opens with your first paragraph.
For security, the code renews every few seconds: scan the one you see. If the camera is not at hand, use Copy the link and open it on the phone in any other way. A paired phone stays linked to that studio for a few hours and can only record for your space.
Record from the phone
Read on the computer screen, where the paragraph appears in large type with the previous one fainter above it and the next one below. The phone shows the same paragraph too, so you can also read it there: scroll with your finger, and use Smaller text and Larger text to adjust it.
Press the red Record button on the phone and read the paragraph aloud.
Press Stop. The take is sent to the computer: the phone shows Sending the take… with the progress.
Press Listen to hear it, Repeat to record it again, or Accept to keep it and move to the next paragraph.
Both ends stay in step: you can also press the buttons or use the keyboard on the computer, and the phone follows. While you record, the computer shows the level of your voice as it arrives from the phone, and the top of the studio says Microphone: followed by the name of your phone.
Switch microphone at any time
- Back to the computer: press Change microphone in the studio, or Disconnect and record with the computer on the phone. You carry on from the same paragraph.
- Back to the phone: press Change microphone again and scan a new code.
- If the connection drops, the studio says The connection with the phone was lost. It reconnects on its own when the phone is back; you can also Scan again or Continue with the computer.
Keep the phone's screen on while you record: if it locks, the browser stops the microphone. The studio asks the phone to stay awake, but some phones in battery-saving mode ignore it.
Phone or computer?
| With my phone | With this computer | |
|---|---|---|
| Sound | Close to your voice, usually clearer | Depends on the computer or the microphone plugged into it |
| Controls | Record, stop and accept from your hand | Buttons and keyboard shortcuts |
| Set-up | Scan a QR code, once per session | Allow the microphone once |
| Credits | Free | Free |
If you open the studio on the phone itself, there is nothing to choose: the phone is already the microphone. Recording never uses credits, whichever microphone you use. To learn about takes, editing and how recordings mix with the AI voice, see Record your own voice.
