A QR code in Muvo is permanent: it keeps working when you rename an artwork, rewrite its text or generate new audio. You rarely need to touch it. There are two exceptions, both for administrators: regenerating a code so the printed one stops working, and swapping two codes that were printed on the wrong labels.
Which one do you need?
| Situation | What to do |
|---|---|
| You changed the name, the text or the audio. | Nothing. The printed QR code already opens the new version once you publish. |
| Two labels were printed or hung the wrong way round. | Swap with another QR code. Nothing needs reprinting. |
| A label was lost, copied or is being used where it should not. | Regenerate. You will have to print the new code. |
| An artwork is closed for a while or was removed. | Nothing. Unpublish or delete it; its QR code shows the page of your space. |
Regenerate a QR code
Regenerating creates a new code and a new address for the artwork or tour. The old code stops working at once, wherever it is printed.
Open the QR tab of the artwork or tour and press Regenerate. In QR codes, you can also open the … menu of its row and choose Regenerate.
Read the warning and press Regenerate QR code.
Muvo confirms with the new code, for example QR code regenerated. The new code is ….
Download or print the new QR code and replace the old label. See Download your QR codes.
Regenerating cannot be undone. Until you replace the label, visitors who scan the old one see This QR code no longer works and a button to See the audio guides of your space, instead of the artwork. If two labels are only mixed up, swap them instead.
The general QR code of your space can be regenerated the same way, from View the general QR in QR codes. Remember that it is usually printed at the entrance.
Swap two QR codes printed the wrong way round
If the label of one artwork ended up next to another, you do not need to reprint anything. Swapping exchanges what the two codes open: each printed code keeps its letters, but now leads where the other one used to.
Go to QR codes and open the … menu of one of the two codes.
Choose Swap with another QR code.
Under QR code to swap with, search by name, number or code and pick the other artwork or tour.
Press Swap. Muvo confirms with Targets swapped.
The change is immediate for visitors. Each artwork's QR tab now shows the code that is physically next to it. To undo it, swap the same two codes again.
What visitors see when a QR code cannot open
| The code points to… | What the visitor sees |
|---|---|
| A draft, archived or deleted artwork or tour | The page of your space with That audio guide is not available right now. Here are the others. |
| A tour with no published stops | The same page of your space, with the same message. |
| An old code that was regenerated | This QR code no longer works, with a button to your space's audio guides. |
| A code that does not exist | Code not found, asking them to scan it again. |
Nothing is lost when an artwork is unpublished or deleted: its QR code is kept. If you publish it again or restore it, the same printed code opens it again. See Publish and versions and Delete and restore artworks.
Who can do it
Only administrators of the space can regenerate or swap QR codes; editors do not see these options. Both actions are recorded in the activity log with the codes before and after.
