Fields are the details of each artwork: artist, year, technique, room, species, year group… Your space defines its own list once, and every artwork gets the same fields to fill in. Administrators set the fields up; editors and administrators fill in their values on each artwork.
The fields your space starts with
When a space is created, Muvo proposes fields for its kind. They are ordinary fields: rename, reorder, archive or delete them as you like. Some examples:
| Kind of space | Proposed fields (featured in bold) |
|---|---|
| Museum | Artist, Year, Technique, Room |
| Art gallery | Artist, Year, Technique, Dimensions |
| Archaeological site | Period, Culture, Area of the site |
| Garden or park | Species, Origin, Area |
| School | Author, Year group, Subject |
| City route | Neighbourhood, Address, Period |
Create or edit a field
Go to Settings → Fields and press New field.
Type the Field name. Open the translations under it, for example Translations (0 of 2), to give the name in your other content languages.
Choose the Type.
For a list, add its Options. For a number, you can set a Minimum value and a Maximum value.
Optionally, add a Help (optional) text, shown below the field while filling it in.
Turn on Required or Featured if needed, and press Create the field.
| Type | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Text | One line, up to 200 characters. For example, the author. |
| Long text | Several paragraphs, up to 4,000 characters. |
| Number | Decimals allowed, with an optional minimum and maximum. |
| Whole number | No decimals. For example, the year. |
| Yes or no | A switch. |
| Date | Day, month and year. |
| List of options | One option chosen from a list. |
| List with several options | Several options chosen from a list. |
| Link | A web address starting with https://. |
Drag fields by their handle to change their order; the panel and the player follow it. To change a field later, open its menu and choose Edit.
Featured and required fields
- Featured: the value shows right below the artwork's name in the player. Keep it for the one or two details visitors read first, such as the artist and the year.
- Required: it must be filled in to publish an artwork. Required fields can stay empty in a draft; if one is missing, publishing tells you which, for example Required fields missing: followed by their names.
Fill in the values of an artwork
Open the artwork from Artworks and open Artwork details.
Choose the Fields tab.
Fill in the values and press Save.
Visitors see the featured fields below the name, and the other fields further down, below the audio, as a list of name and value. Empty fields do not show. On a published artwork, saved values reach visitors straight away.
Field names and list options are translated; values are not. A Text value such as a title or a technique shows the same in every language, so for multilingual details prefer a list of options and translate each option. Dates and numbers are written in the visitor's format automatically.
Archive, delete or change a field
If you only want to hide a field, open its menu and choose Archive. It no longer shows in the panel or the player, but every artwork keeps its value. Find it under Archived fields and choose Restore whenever you want.
Changes that can lose data go through a short wizard: Delete…, Remove an option… and Change the type…. Muvo first counts how many artworks have a value, including those in the trash. When deleting a field or removing an option, you choose Clear it or Reassign it: copy the data to another compatible field, or give those artworks another option.
When you change the type, values that fit the new type are kept and the rest are cleared. The confirm button says how many artworks lose their value, for example Change and clear 3 artworks.
