Extras are optional material that visitors find below the player of an artwork: images, a video, a PDF, a link, a text or other artworks to see next. They are built with blocks that you add, order and delete. If an artwork has no extras, the player shows no empty gap.
Add a block
Open the artwork from Artworks and open Artwork details.
Choose the Extras tab.
Press Add block and choose the kind of block.
Fill in the block that opens and press Save the block.
Each block shows as a row with its title and kind. Click the row to open or close it. Blocks are shared by every content language of the artwork: you add a block once and translate only its texts.
The kinds of block
| Block | What you add | What visitors see |
|---|---|---|
| Image gallery | Up to 30 JPEG, PNG or WebP images, each with an Alternative text and a Caption | Thumbnails that open full screen, with previous and next |
| Video | A YouTube or Vimeo link, and an optional title | The video inside the page. Starting it pauses the audio guide |
| One PDF file with a Document title | A card with the title and size that opens the PDF in a new tab | |
| Link | A Web address, with a title, description and image | A card with the title, image and domain that opens in a new tab |
| Text | Text with bold, italic, bulleted and numbered lists and quotes | The text. It has no audio |
| Related artworks | Up to 12 other artworks of your space | Cards with the number, name and image that open those artworks |
- Video: videos are linked, not uploaded. The video must be public; otherwise you see We could not find that video. Check that it is public. Nothing from YouTube or Vimeo loads until the visitor presses play.
- Link: press Get details to fill in the title, description, image and domain from the page. You can change them afterwards, remove the image, or type the title by hand if the page does not answer.
- Related artworks: type in Add an artwork to search by name or number. Only published artworks show to visitors.
- Image gallery: describe each image in Alternative text for people who cannot see it. The block warns you when the alternative text in the default language is missing.
Files and limits
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| Blocks per artwork | 30 |
| Images per gallery | 30 |
| Each image | JPEG, PNG or WebP, up to 15 MB |
| Each PDF | Up to 20 MB |
| Text block | 10,000 characters per language |
| Related artworks per block | 12 |
Images are optimised when you upload them: Muvo makes smaller copies in modern formats, up to 2000 px wide, so the gallery loads quickly on a phone. You do not need to resize them first.
There is no media library. Each file belongs to the artwork where you upload it. When you remove it from the block, delete the block or the artwork is deleted for good, the file goes too.
Reorder or delete blocks
To change the order, drag a block by its handle. You can also focus the handle and move it with the keyboard.
To delete a block, press the bin icon on its row and confirm with Delete the block.
Images inside a gallery and artworks inside a related block can be reordered the same way; press Save the block afterwards.
Extras are not part of the text versions. On a published artwork, a saved block reaches visitors straight away, without pressing Publish, and a deleted block cannot be recovered.
Translate the texts of the extras
Titles, captions, alternative texts and link descriptions have a box in the default language and, below it, a counter of the translations, for example Translations (1 of 3). Open it to type each content language. An empty translation falls back to the text in the default language.
A Text block has one tab per content language, each with its own text. Visitors see the extras in the language they are listening in. Extras are not covered by AI translation, so type their translations yourself. For the text of the audio guide, see Translate with AI.
Opens of galleries, videos, PDFs and links count in Statistics, per artwork and per block.
