Your space decides which content languages its audio guides are offered in: the languages your artworks are written, translated and voiced in. You manage them in Settings → Languages. Only administrators can open this screen. This is not the language you see the dashboard in, which each person picks in their user menu; see Which languages does Muvo cover?.
The screen lists your languages with their name in your dashboard language and in the language itself, an Active or Inactive switch and a … menu. The line on top counts how many languages are active.
Add a language
Go to Settings → Languages.
Under Add a language, click the Language box and type part of its name in Search a language.
Pick the language. Languages are grouped by family, such as Spanish, Other languages of Spain, English or Portuguese, and the rest are under Other languages.
Press Add. Muvo confirms with Language added and the language appears in the list, already active.
Most major languages come as regional variants, each with its own accent: Spanish from Spain or Mexico, British or American English, Portuguese from Portugal or Brazil, and so on. Choose the variant your visitors expect to hear, because the AI translation and the AI voice both follow it. If you want two accents of the same language, add both.
The list only shows languages your space does not have yet. A language you deactivated earlier is still in the table: turn its switch back on instead.
Languages marked «Few resources»
Some languages carry a Few resources label, both in the picker and in your list. Today that is Basque and Valencian (Valencian pronunciation). When you pick one, a warning explains what it means before you press Add.
It is a technical term from artificial intelligence about training data, not about how important a language is. Their AI voice is somewhat more limited: it reads each paragraph on its own, without carrying the intonation over from the previous one, does not support intonations and may make more pronunciation mistakes. Translation, publishing and the player work exactly as in any other language. Listen to the audio before publishing, and record your own voice wherever the AI voice does not convince you.
Choose the main language
Every space has one main language, marked Main with a star. It is the language your team writes in first: translations start from it, and it is always published with each artwork. You chose it when you created the space, and you can change it later.
Make sure the new language is active.
Open its … menu and choose Make main language.
If Muvo shows You cannot make … the main language yet, publish the text of the listed artworks in that language and try again.
Muvo only lets you switch when every published artwork already has its text published in the new language, so no visitor ends up with a missing guide. The main language cannot be deactivated or removed: pick another main language first.
Deactivate or remove a language
| Deactivate | Remove from the list | |
|---|---|---|
| How | Turn its switch to Inactive | … → Remove from the list |
| When you can | Any language except the main one | Only while it has no content yet, and never the main language |
| Texts and audio | Kept, hidden from the editor and from visitors | There are none to lose |
| To undo | Turn the switch back on | Add the language again |
Deactivating is safe: nothing is deleted. The texts and audio come back exactly as they were when you activate the language again.
Remove from the list is for a language added by mistake. It appears in the … menu only while nothing has been done in that language: no paragraph written, no version published, and no artwork or tour name in it. It goes away at once, without a confirmation. As soon as a language has any content, it can only be deactivated.
If a language you want to remove has content you do not need, deactivate it. Inactive languages do not count towards your plan and visitors never see them.
How many languages you can have
Your plan sets how many languages can be active at the same time. Inactive languages do not count. On Zero, the free plan, you can have a few active languages; Premium and Ultra have no limit. For the details of each plan, see the pricing page.
When you reach the limit, the Add button and the switches of inactive languages are disabled, and Muvo suggests deactivating another language or upgrading. See Choose a plan.
Adding a language does not translate anything by itself. Each artwork stays empty in the new language until someone translates it, with AI or by hand. See Translate an artwork with AI.
